Review of 2014 - 15 Season - Under 16's

Another excellent season from this talented squad. The season started well with an unbeaten run up to the Christmas break. In the Yorkshire Cup that elusive trophy we had reached the semi final stage with a comfortable first round win 44-0 at Hessle then a second round home win 33-5 against Malton and Norton. In the third round at Sheffield we won a very close game 25-22 with a last minute penalty from Jacob Bower.

So the second half of the season saw the unbeaten run continue and a tricky Yorkshire Cup semi final at Selby. Could the lads get to the final, at half time it was 12-12 but Reds produced a late try to reach the final and a piece of history. Since its inception 10 plus years ago no junior team had ever reached the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup but they took it a step further by reaching the final after winning a scintillating game against Selby. So to the last game of the season the final against York. Sadly York losing finalists last year wanted it more and the experience of the occasion saw York win a great game of junior rugby 5-15 and lift the cup.

At District and County level three players Will Bowers, Jack Davis and Sam Nunn represented the county and Jacob Bower, Nathan Cooper, Dylan Hartley-Poulton, Oliver Marshall, Will McDonnell represented the District.

2013 - 14 Season - Under 15's

Another excellent season from this talented squad. The season started well losing only two games upto the Christmas break. In the Yorkshire Cup that elusive trophy deserted them again. After a comfortable first round win 31-5 at home to Middlesbrough we were dealt a bad hand with the round date clashing with the Crossley Heath school trip. Yorkshire predictably would not budge on the play by date so we had to play Selby with weakened squad. They battled well but lost 3-27. In the second half of the season the squad lost to Sheffield, Selbt and Ilkley but finished with a flourish. They won the Harrogate festival and were losing finalists at the Welsh International festival.

Jack Davis was selected to play for Yorkshire. Jacob Bower, Sam Nunn, Oliver Marshall and Will McDonnell were selected for the West Yorkshire district team.

2012 - 13 Season - Under 14's

Another good season of junior rugby but the promise of a good cup run came to an early end with a second round defeat at York. The season opened well with good wins over local rivals Brodleians and Huddersfield and an unbeaten run going into the cup game at York. The squad rallied and remained unbeaten until late February when they lost at Sandal having beaten them at home earlier in February. The defeat at Sandal was their only friendy loss in the season. Again the squad picked themselves up from the Sandal defeat and were undefeated in the friendlies for the rest of the season. The tour to the Yarmouth Festival was the last fixture of the season and they met some stiff oposition from Nottingham Corsairs a team known to have beaten Sandal Sharks. Reds won the opening four games but went down against the Corsairs and a narrow defeat at the hands of Wymonham.

Jack Davis, Lewis Ackroyd, Jacob Bower, Sam Nunn and Oliver Marshall were selected for the West Yorkshire district team and next season there will be a chance for players to step up and be selected to play for Yorkshire.

2011 - 12 Season - Under 13's

An excellent start to junior rugby with this squad showing real promise. The season opened with a draw at Huddersfield then an unbeaten run until Sandal came to Copley to win 10 - 34. The squad entered the Yorkshire cup on a high and looked good for a cup run beating Roundhegians and Cleckheaton and earn a quarter final tie away to strongly fancied Huddersfield. In a pulating game they lost 7 - 17 to Huddersfield who went onto the final and lost to Sandal. The remainder of the season saw the squad continue an unbeaten run with the highlight winning the Harrogate Festival without conceding a try. The tour destination was the Peak District but they had to travel to Congleton for a 3 way tour fixture. The lads had 2 excellent wins 84 - 0 against Marple and 57 - 0 against Congleton. The last game of the season was scheduled at home to Huddersfield, the lads were keen to avenge the cup defeat but Hudderfield were not so keen and pulled out of the fixture.

2010 - 11 Season - Under 12's
The under 12's move up to junior rugby next season and signed off their mini rugby career on tour at the Alnwick Festival on a high note. They won the festival with a 100% record and never conceded a try. The season also started well trouncing the Bees 94-0 and went on a winning run until they met Huddersfield. During the winning run they won all their games at the West District Festival again without conceding a try and qualified for the Yorkshire Cup only to be knocked out in the 1st round by their bogey team West Park Leeds again. Christmas and bad weather disrupted proceedings with defeats in a 3 way with Brods and Sheffield but bounced back to thump Rochdale 103-14.

The West Park Leeds festival saw a drop in form but again recovered at Sandal Festival to finish 3rd against Yorkshires top sides and then to win the Plate competition at the Brods Festival. It was a "Jekyll and Hyde" season not quite knowing which team was going to turn up but still played some impressive rugby. Several new players joined during the season and proved to be good players to strengthen the squad further. They now have a squad of 20 players to go into next season with the promise of a couple of good players to join pre season.

We have also reached a milestone in mini/junior rugby at the club. This was our first under 7's minis team when we formed the junior rugby section and this is the first squad to complete the six seasons of mini rugby from under 7 to under 12. They have played 224 games, won 146, lost 60 and drawn 18. Well done lads, lets hope for similar success in junior rugby.

Under 11 squad v Huddersfield Nov 2009

Review of 2008 - 09 Season - Under 10's
The U10`s almost have an embarrassment of riches with coaching from with Bob Davies, Steve Cockroft, Dave McDonnell, Hugh Creasy, Jon Bake etc etc. This age group are making a real impact in Yorkshire and we are confident that quite a few of this group will play representative rugby in the near future. This season saw the introduction of contested scrums and line outs and more structure to the game with several players starting to find their prefered positions

The highlight of their season was winning the Scarborough Festival, the Doncaster Festival and West District runners up (losing in the final to Brods). The U10 playing record reads: P43, Won 35, D 3 L 5. They scored an amazing 1240 points and conceding only 255.

A few more players joined the squad to boost the numbers to 19 players allowing us to field two teams the Reds and All Blacks when everyone is available.

Under 10's Squad
Thomas Cockroft, William McDonnell, Gregory Day, Jacob Bower, Thomas Sweeten, Billy Whythe, Lewis Hilton, Nathan Cooper, George Radcfiffe, Jack Davis, Charlotte Siddall, Tom Creasy, Daniel Byrnes, Sam Bake, Harry Crabtree, Oliver Swales, Jonathan Wheatcroft, Joe Sutcliffe, Isaac Heron.

Under 10 squad v Brods 1/03/09

Review of 2007 - 08 Season - Under 9's
This has probably been their best season so far. The highlight of the season winning the Moortown and Huddersfield Festivals. They were unable to take the under 9 trophy at Harrogate having previously won it at under 7 and 8 level.

The first half of the season saw the squad on fire winning 13 games and losing only 3 matches. During the Christmas break they were invited to play at half time in the Leeds Carnegie v Sale game in front of a large 10,000 plus crowd. They played Pocklington and drew 10 - 10. After losing at home to Sandal 0 - 70 !! the coaches decided to introduce training on a Friday night which paid dividends by going on an excellent run after Christmas only conceding one try in 11 games.

The under 9's only recruited 2 new players this season but that was negated as they lost 3 or 4 players to other interests. Next season as under 10's they still play 9 a side rugby but the scrums and line outs are now contested.

We have arranged for Sidhill to sponsor a match kit for the players, the kit is the same as the under 17's which looks very smart.

Under 9's Squad Thomas Cockroft, William McDonnell, Sam Brant, Gregory Day, Jacob Bower, Thomas Sweeten, Billy Whythe, Lewis Hilton, Nathan Cooper, George Radcfiffe, Jack Davis, Charlotte Siddall, Tom Creasy, Daniel Byrnes, Sam Bake.

    Under 9's Awards
  • Player of the Year, the coaches and parents could not agree on one player and just could not split Jack Davis and Will Mc Donnell so they share the award.
  • The Most Improved Player Thomas Cockroft.
  • The Coach's Award Jacob Bower

Review of 2006 - 07 Season - Under 8's
The under 8's completed their second season of mini tag rugby and now hang up their tag belts ready for next seasons challenge, contact rugby. During the season a few more players joined the squad to take the squad size up to 20 players and able to field two sides the All Blacks and the Reds on a number of occasions.

The highlight of the season was retaining the Harrogate Festival Trophy as joint winners with Sandal. At the Huddersfield Festival the under 8's won all their group games except for the final game which meant they played the other group winners and lost their semi final to eventual joint winners Sheffield.

The under 8's ended their season with a playing record played 42, won 21, drawn 6, lost 15.

Review of 2005 - 06 Season - Under 7's
The under 7 section started playing their first competitive fixtures this season. During the season a few more players joined the squad and a few under 6 players from the micros moved up to boost the numbers to 16 players. After Christmas we were able to often field 2 teams. The highlight of their season was winning the Harrogate Festival by beating Ripon 8-5 and then Harrogate 8-5 in the final. The squad also went to the Morley Festival beating Leos 5 - 2, but narrowly lost to York, Pocklington, Morley, and narrowly beaten by the winners Old Brods 4 - 5.

The under 7's ended their season with a playing record played 25, won 14, drawn 4, lost 7. In all matches they scored 226 tries and conceeded 210.
