Match Preview Rishworthians v Modernians

Rishworthians will field their strongest squad when they host lowly Old Modernians in Yorkshire Three. With a weaker squad back in November they travelled to the Leeds club and came away with a 36 - 17 victory and will be favourites to bag the points despite Mods' victory last week over fourth-placed Thornensians.

Back after injury for Rishworthians is in-form winger Anthony Shoesmith, while lock James McDonnell and flanker Ben Robinson return to the pack, with prop Richard Turner making his first start in a game after two games on the bench after long-term in jury.

The Copley men started to show a return to their best form with both good attacking and defensive rugby in last week's win at Northallerton and will be keen to step up another gear against Mods. They will also be keeping an eye on the game at league leaders Roundhegians, where the home side will take on Bramley Phoenix, the main challengers to Rishworthians in the push for promotion places.

Results Saturday 6th March

Northallerton 12 - 18 Rishworthians

The steep slope proved a leveller, but Rishworthians came through despite a scare. Northallerton have always proved a tough proposition for Rishworthians and were the last team to beat them at Copley - last season. The lowly Yorkshire Three club have had a number of close results this season and showed how to use their home slope to great advantage in the second half. But boosted by the return of No 8 James Clarke, hooker Simon Edmundson, who had a fine game throughout, and fullback Aaron Canning coming back from injury, Rishworthians showed solid defence to keep the home side out in the last quarter.

2009 - 2010 Season

Rishworthians are aiming to build on the success of the last two seasons with Jamie Bloem and John Clough continuing as the coaching team at Copley. The club is also looking to introduce a coach who can help in the area of rucking and mauling. While Rishworthians are surprised that the restructure of the leagues means that Yorkshire Three includes six teams they played last season, there are three teams the club has not played for some time - Baildon, Aireborough and Otliensians - and Rishworthians are looking forward to renewing old acquaitances.

Pre season training started early July and is now gearing up for the pre season friendlies starting with a trip to division 2 side Goole. Anyone interested in playing rugby serious or social just come down and join in on Tuesday or Thursday starting at 7:00pm.

The club's youth policy will continue, with last season's under 16 players coming on stream during the season. Gary Morris has been nominated as captain again this season with Paul Savage again as second team captain. Rishworthians' successful minis/junior section will be running two new teams next season at under 12 and under 13 level. Last season the under sevens won the Harrogate Festival and the under 10s won the Scarborough and Doncaster Festivals. A new pitch and changing rooms are being developed ready for the coming season to accommodate the expanding section which will run teams from under six to under 13, plus an under 16s and under 17s.

Yorkshire Silver Trophy Draw

Due to the adverse weather conditions all clubs have fallen behind with their League matches which will now have to be played on the next original non League Saturday, i.e. February 6th or February 27th 2010.

We therefore request that all clubs still involved in the above competitions attempt to play these games mid week. The first available dates are likely to be 30th/31st March 2010. Can you please keep myself and the Referees Society informed if games are organised or if you have any problems.
