Old Rishworthian RUFC
Yorkshire 5B Champions 2007 - 08: Yorkshire 4 Champions 2008 - 09
Yorkshire 3 runners up and Silver Trophy winners 2009 - 10
Old Rishworthians are one of six clubs who play rugby union in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The seniors section run a 1st XV who now play in Yorkshire 3 and 2nd XV play in the Aire-Wharfe League 2. We also run a thriving mini/junior section from under 6 to under 17's. For more details click on the menu bar Senior rugby or Junior rugby.
The seniors, under 17's and colts train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 7:00pm. We always require new players to join the club, anyone interested in playing rugby just come down on a training night or a Saturday afternoon.
“Rolling Replacements” are introduced this season at Levels 9 and below in league games (ie Yorkshire 3, 4 and 5).
1. At Level 9 and below, up to a maximum of 5 players may be named as replacements and players will be allowed to “roll on and roll off” on an unlimited basis, to hopefully maintain 15 players a side on the field of play at all times, other than when the game has moved to uncontested scrums when the side causing the uncontested scrums plays with 1 player fewer.
2. There is no compulsion to have 5 replacements and sides do not have to have equal numbers of replacements.
3. Replacements will be made, with the referees permission, at stoppages of play other than at penalty and free kick situations, to make sure that a replacement doesn’t come on to the field of play simply to take a kick at goal and then be replaced again.
4. The requirement to have one replacement front row player within the squad is still necessary, so that at the first time of asking a side can replace a front row player in order that the game carries on with contested scrums.
5. This rule is not intended to encourage clubs to pick the maximum number of replacements for league games to the detriment of turning out a second or third XV.
DERBY games between Rishworthians and Vandals are always close affairs and this one at Warley looks like being no different. The fact that Rishworthians are sixth in the table and Vandals are bottom will make no difference in this Yorkshire Three league match. Vandals will be eager to win to ease relegation worries, while Rishworthians will be keen to stop the inconsistency which has ruined their league season so far and continue the momentum of a fine win last week over Old Modernians.
Rishworthians coach John Clough is delighted with the way his young team is performing. But with an average age of 19 in the pack he is wary of the strength of the Vandals forwards. Young players like Harry Collett, Ryan Mudd, Phil Kershaw and Matt Tyson have all made their mark this season, while the Copley men will be looking to the experience of skipper Gary Morris and Aaron Canning at halfback. Rishworthians retain the same squad that beat Modernians convincingly last week and hope they can continue the form shown then.
The teams will be playing for the Trevor Whitworth trophy, which was won two seasons ago when the teams last met at Warley in the league, by Rishworthians, who went on to gain promotion that season When the two sides met at Copley early this season, Rishworthians had the upper hand for much of the match, but Vandals almost caused an upset near the end and the score ended 20 - 16 to the home side.
