The 2009- 10 Season
The 6th season of junior rugby at Copley, Halifax has started with all age groups in pre season training.

The under 17's also play league rugby and will play in Yorkshire division 2.

We will have a new squad the under 13's. Last season we were developing this squad as a mixed u11/12's and as the squad grew throughout the season to 20 players we felt we were very close to running split age groups. A big push to recruit a few more players should see the under 13's up and running.

The under 15/16's will start their third full season of competitive rugby.

Home to Whitby 1st round Yorkshire Cup KO 11:30am

The under 16's are on the cup trail this Sunday with the visiit of Whitby. The 2 sides have never met but they have won their opening games so it could be another close game. The squad however should be confident after 2 execellent opening wins.

Under 14/15's
More Information

It is our longer term aim to develop this squad of players. Last season we recruited some players and they train on a Friday night with the under 16's and play competitive matches in the under 16's team. In addition to recruiting more players for the squad we require 2 volunteers to coach the squad. We will continue to recruit players for this age group this season and once we have enough for a team we will start to look for fixtures. In the meantime they will train and play fixtures with the under 16's.

The under 13's will be training this Sunday to build on last Sundays encouraging performance. The squad now have 2 weeks preparation before their next game at home to Bramley Phoenix.

Junior Rugby Continuum
Junior rugby is played to a set of RFU rules known as the continuum. A child's age is determined by their age on the 1st September.

The under 13 - 18's game is played on a full size pitch and the full 15 a side game is introduced. The object of the game is to score a try (5 points) and conversion (2 points). The scrum is made up of eight players from each team.

At under 13/14level a size 4 ball is used and they play 25 minutes each way. The hand-off/fend-off and kicking the ball is now permitted.

At Under 15 a size 5 ball is used and the playing time increased to 30 minutes each way

At Under 16, 17 and 18 level the playing time increases to 35 minutes each way. Players may now lift/support team mates in the lineout.


Can You Help!!!!

Even though we have 30 coaches we still need to enlist help on the day with the odd training session, running touch and so on. But as the numbers in the mini/junior section continues to grow we need more parents to help on the day.
If you?d like to help on a more formal basis let us know. We will also provide courses for you if you would like to become a coach or a referee.
In addition we are always looking for more people to help with the administration of the section. This could be writing match reports, helping with registration or helping to run the club shop. If you can help please let us know.

Match report volunteers wanted

Now we are running under 13/14's, under 15/16's and under 17's we need additional volunteers to help write up a match report for each age group. Ideally we require one person for each age group and a couple of additional people to cover for weeks when people are away or to work a rota system.
At present we need some help with the under 16's.
All we require are the try scorers, match award winners plus the squad list so everyone gets a mention in the local paper and on the web site. If you wish to add extra comments about the game so much the better. The reports can then be e-mailed to davebutler@orrufc.co.uk
