Welcome to the under 8's page. This age group is for children in the school year 3 age group starting on 1st September, i.e. children aged 7 at the 1st of September 2010.

When do the squad train
The squad are currently on a close season break but will start pre season training in August. Please check the web site training sessions for details of when training starts. View sessions

When do the squad play matches
During the playing season September - April matches are on Sunday Mornings 10:00 - Noon.

How do I join
We have a squad of 14 players but need more players to cover for injuries and players unavailable. We are aiming for a squad of 20 plus players so if you are interested in playing mini tag rugby come down to Copley on any training session or match day

2010 - 11 Season - The Under 8's
This season's under 8's squad start their second season of competitive mini rugby. They had a very good season last year playing 33 games and only losing 9 of those. We hope to field 2 sides most weeks so we need a few more players to join the squad. Our policy is to give everyone in the squad an opportunity to play competitive games.

Any new players who would like to play mini rugby are very welcome to come down to Copley on Sunday mornings during the season when they are training or have home games. Please look at the fixtures list to check the minis are at home. With 2 teams everyone gets a game. If your child has never played before don't worry they will be given all the coaching to get them up to speed to play mini rugby.

2009 - 10 Season - The Under 7's
The under 7's squad had a great season playing 33 games and only losing 9 of those games. They ran 2 sides on a number of occasions as the micros reached their 6th birthday and joined the squad to gain experienve of competitive games ready for next season.

The season started well only losing 3 games up to the Christmas break. With the spell of bad weather the squad had no games for 7 weeks and lost some momentum. We were fortunate to be able to use Rishworth School Sports Hall some of those weeks. However they soon got back into the groove to finish the season well. The squad played in their first festival at Sandal but in a strong group with Otley, Sandal, West Park Leeds and Wetherby they struggled. THey won their opening game against West Park 5-1 but lost narrowly to the others. It does show they can compete with the best in Yorkshire and with a bit of luck could have won more pool games.

The Under 7's Awards
• Jack Lumb won the most improved player award.
• Bobbie White won the coaches award.
• Ted Grogan won the player of the year trophy.

Review of 2008 - 09 Season - The Under 6's (The Micros)
The under 6's (The micros) had a very successful and enjoyable season. With new players arriving at the club throughout the year the squad has grown to a very healthy 20 players.

The under 6 section, known as the micros allows children aged 4 and 5 to start learning how to play tag rugby. They do not play competitive games until they reach their sixth birthday then they can join in with the under 7's squad and play competitive games. They train on Sunday mornings and occasionally travel with the under 7's to train with the opposition.

This season Neal Lumb, Darren Grogan, Guy Laurie and Warren Doyle coached the squad. with four coaches we were able to split the squad into 2 groups, the under 5's and under 6. As the players reach their sixth birthday they have joined in with the under 7's squad to play competitive games. All those players have performed well with several picking up man of the match awards. The highlight being able to take part in the Harrogate Festivals as part of the squad and winning the Festival under 7 trophy. Taking this into consideration the players did themselves and the club proud.

The micros have trained every week and during the season we invited Huddersfield YMCA micros to come down and join in a training session and play tag rugby. The session worked well and we returned the compliment by travelling to YM for a session. We plan to find another suitable club to join in next season. The basis of next seasons under 7 squad is now in place with 2 parents willing to coach the squad. We will look for another 2 parents to help the coaches as we feel this squad needs 4 coaches to develop the players.
