Sunday saw the final outing for this seasons Old Rishworthians Colts when they attended the season ending Hull Ionians Easter 7s Festival.
A total of 21 Colts teams attended from all over the county plus guest teams from Cheshire, Lancashire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
In the initial group stages Rishies easily beat Lincoln (38-0) and then Selby (19-10),before losing in the final group game to Doncaster A (5-17), which placed us in to the semi final of the Plate competition and Doncaster in to the Cup semi final.
In the Plate semi final Rishies came up against local neighbours Huddersfield and triumphed 27-7, thus placing us in the final. Rishies opposition in the final was Chester Colts. Rishworthians scored a couple of tries in the first half from Oli Marshall and Kian Stewart, with one from Chester, but in the second period another couple of tries from Ben Sutcliffe and Will McDonnell sealed a 26-7 final score, making Old Rish Colts winners of the Plate.
The guys turned up at the festival with a lackadaisical, can't be bothered outlook towards the day but did enough through the groups stage. Once the realisation that silverware was on the cards, that Rish vim and vigour reappeared and they won the Plate games quite comfortably. The only blot on the day was a serious ankle injury to Kian Stewart, received with only 3 minutes left in the final.
