Old Rishworthians U17 17 - 17 Guisborough U17
Away ruling agony as Rishworthians go out of the Cup Match report Yorkshire Cup Quarter Final Sunday 27th April The pitch was heavy with mud and the air was damp making the conditions ideal for a big forward pack, exactly what Guisborough had turned up with. It took only 5 minutes for the opposition to get on the score sheet when they kicked for the line from a penalty and then from the ensuing line out the big pack drove Rishworthians backwards over their own line and Guisborough touched the ball down. The pressure was on the Rishworthians forwards who were struggling to keep hold of the ball let alone get it out to the backs who knew if given the chance they had the pace to run it in against the slower north east side. It was, in fact, forward Hedley Stirk who caught the ball at the back of the line out and powered passed 3 Guisborough players to score. No conversion. With the half time whistle the scores remained level.
Half Time Old Rishworthians 5 – 5 Guisborough
The second half saw the Guisborough pack play a catch and drive game and with only 5 minutes gone they had scored their second try of the day. Rishworthians knew they had to get the ball out to the backs and let them run with it and a burst of speed involving Ramsden, Chappell, Kidd, Robinson and Redfern made 50 metres up the the pitch and Chappell in the middle of the field Kicked the ball out to the right wing where Stirk ran on to take it and run in to the corner, bringing the scores level again. Guisborough's 3rd try was an exact repeat of the previous ones with them kicking to the corner from a penalty, winning their line out and driving over the line with their big forwards. Their conversion hitting the inside of the post to go over. With only minutes on the clock a quick tap and go out to Chappell, on to Clough and back to Chappell allowed him to race under the posts. Ramsden getting the conversion and for the third time in the match the scores were level. The referee blew his whistle and with the scores remaining the same Guisborough were awarded the match on the away ruling for the competition. Final score Old Rishworthian 17 – 17 Guisborough This had been a hard fought game unfortunately the OR forwards were just not big enough to cope with the opposition pack in the muddy conditions. When the backs did get the ball they always looked like scoring but didn’t get enough of it. We wish Guisborough all the best in the rest competition. | Team | 1 Brocklehurst | 2 Fee | 3 Robinson | | 6 Stirk T2 | | | | 7 Porritt | | | 4 Jennings | | 5 Oxley | | | | | 8 Costello | | | 9 Chappell T | | | | | | | 10 Flanagan | | | | | | | 12 Ferneyhough | | | | | | | 13 Hoyland | | | 11 Redfern | | | | 14 Wood | | | | 15 Ramsden C | | | Subs | Clough, Kidd | Knight | | |
