Welcome to the under 16's page. This age group is for boys in the year 10 age group starting on 1st September, i.e. boys aged 15 at the 1st of September 2009.

Away to Moortown 3 way festival KO 11:00

The squad travel to Moortown for their final games of the season. The fixture will be a 3 way with Moortown and another team ontour in the area. The squad have played Moortown twice this season winning 17 - 10 at Copley and losing 14 - 24 at Moortown. Both games have been good competitive encounters and they can expect nother close game. We should know who is joining in the 3 way on Friday.

2009 - 10 Season - Under 16's Yorkshire Bowl Winners

Without doubt this has been the most successful season for the squad. The signs of improvement were there towards the end of last season and they have continued to improve this season. Previous seasons has seen the squad winning only a few games but this season so far they have won 10 of their 17 games and playing stronger clubs. As the season draws to a close the squad have gone on a good run in the Bowl competition to reach the final. The highlight is obviously winning the Yorksire Bowl, the first time a junior side at the club has won a county trophy.

Review of 2008 - 09 Season - Under 15's

This season has seen a big improvement from the squad. The season started with a home defeat at the hands of Thornensians followed by a victory away to Morley. The squad returned to the club euphoric but that was short lived as the squad were unable to record another win before Christmas. To the lads credit they did not give up the defeats were often close affairs and perhaps could have turned into victories. The main problem seemed to be unable to score tries. Apart from the Morley game they were only able to score one try per game. During December and January the poor weather saw the team only play 2 games.

Then in February there was a dramatic turn around, they started to win games. The final run in to the end of season winning 4 games, losing 2 and 1 draw. One of those defeats was against a rather large/old looking Pontefract side. In the cup the squad lost to a strong and well drilled Malton and Norton side and then lost 0-17 in the Plate at Ripon. In the Ilkley 7's the squad performed well considering it was their first experience of 7's and only had 1 training session.

The final playing record reads Played 17 Won 5 Drawn 1 Lost 11 For 223 Against 350. The squads leading points scorer was Josh Kelly with 32 pts, second Jack Ledgard 31pts and third Vitaly Seleznev 30pts. The leading try scorer was Vitaly with six tries. The most appearances were made by Josh Kelly, Brad Fowles, Hary Collett and Chris Cowey.

• Coaches award - Milo Mansell for turning up for every training session.
• Most Improved Player - Jack Smart. This was a close decision with Chris Cowey and Sam Bottomley in contention.
• Forward of Year - Brad Fowles.
• Back of the year - Jack Ledgard.
• Players player - Harry Collett.
• Player of the year - Vitaly Seleznev.

Review of 2007 - 08 Season - Under 14's
Another good season on the recruitment front with the squad swelling in numbers to 35 players. The under 14's completed their first full season of rugby having only started half way through last season. I do not have all their results but they have won at least 8 games which is very encouraging considering they are playing fixtures against teams who have developed and trained together as young minis. The improvement continues with this age group with every game.

Mark Jones, Chris Mitchell and Darren Dawson are standing down at the end of this season due to work commitments. We thank them both for helping set up this age group and giving up their time to coach the youngsters. Chris Fox Kevin Mitchell and Jez Rollings will take over coaching the squad.

During the season a number of new players joined the squad who were under 15 players. By the end of the season the numbers had increased to the point of being able to run an under 16?s side next season. Warren Dodd who has been helping to coach the under 14?s will develop and coach the under 16?s. The decision to split the squad may not be seen as a popular decision by some people but the RFU continuum clearly states you are only allowed to play a maximum of 2 over age players and with the opposing coaches permission.

The top points scorer was Mathew Hunt-Brown with 55 points (11 tries), second was Ryan Percival with 9 tries, 45 points and third Jack Ledgard 7 tries 4 conversions 43 points.
33 players have played for the team this season, nobody with 100% appearances, Jack Ledgard,Jack Smart, Bradley Fowles, Mathew Zientek and Luke Illingworth played 17 games.
