Rishworthians in eight try romp at Wetherby

Match report Sunday 15th November Friendly
On a dry, sunny autumn morning Old Rishworthian's put last weeks hiccup behind them and continued their excellent form this season with an eight try rout against Wetherby. This time last year Wetherby ran out victors but it was clear from the first few passages of play that Rish were the stronger team and, despite a number of players playing out of position, they were able to take the game to Wetherby.

The forwards started strongly and dominated loose play as well as many of the set pieces and after concerted pressure in Wetherby's 22, Fowles opened the scoring when he bundled over for a try. The next period of play saw Rish creating all the chances with Wetherby not able to get into their stride. A few more passes wide to the wings and Rish could have gone over for three more scores before Cowey forced his way over for his first of the game. With place kicking not going to plan, Rish had a ten point lead to show for all their pressure but should have been further ahead. When Wetherby did make it into Old Rishworthian's 22, the away team used their kicking from hand to good effect. An excellent punt by Ledgard followed up by Watkins put Wetherby under pressure again and support from Cowey saw the lock score to stretch the lead.

The half was rounded of by Ettenfeld-Nann taking the ball on the crash and pounding over for his first points for the club. Ledgard converted to extend the lead.

Half Time: Wetherby 0 - 22 Rishworthians

The Wetherby boys had worked hard in the first half, absorbing a lot of pressure and despite the scoreline, they came out in the second with a will to take the game to Old Rishworthian's. Despite spirited play by the home team, Rish soon extended their lead with a good try by Smart from a ball moved quickly from a set play along the line with Ledgard slotting his second conversion.

The match was all Rishworthian's from this point on and despite some good defensive work by Wetherby and a couple of strong runs by their forwards, Old Rishworthian's extended their lead as the backs started cutting loose.. With the ball being played along the line the wingers finally had their chance as Zientek crossed the line for two tries in quick succession. Ettenfeld-Nann took the last points of the match with a storming run from loose play as he went over for his second of the match.

Final Score: Wetherby 0 - 44 Rishworthians
