Rishworthians exit Plate at the hands of a well drilled Malton & Norton

Match report Sunday 8th November Yorkshire Plate 1st round
A wet, cold day was the setting for the repeat of last season's when Old Rishworthians met Malton & Norton in the cup. Again the North Yorkshire side were too strong for the home team with well-disciplined forwards and a backline with real flair and the ability to get the ball quickly to their fast running wings.

Despite last season's heavy loss, the home team started well and for the first 20 minutes there was little to choose between the teams with much of the play taking place in Malton's half. As the half progressed, the away team's strengths started to pay off as they took more and more possession from the line outs and their rucking and mauling started to provide good ball for the backs. Two quick tries - one a fast flowing move out to the wing and the second a charge down behind Rish' try line gave Malton a 10 point lead and undid a lot of Rishworthians good work in the early part of the match. Some poor discipline started creep in to the Rishworthian's game and despite pressurising Malton a few silly penalties by Rish gave clean possession to the away team which allowed them to take a 17 point lead into the break.

Half-time: Rishworthians 0 - 17 Malton & Norton

Rishworthians started the second half as they had the first with real determination as they took the game to Malton but again poor discipline saw a sin binning early in the half and the loss of territorial advantage.

Malton took advantage of a 14-man opposition and scored a good forwards try from a rolling maul. Their second try of the half followed shortly from another charge down close to Old Rishworthian's line. The home team lost their discipline again and a second sin binning followed by two reds saw them play out the final ten minutes with twelve men on the pitch. Despite this, the Rish managed to hold on without conceding any further points. This was a poor end to what promised to have been a competitive Plate match with Old Rishworthian's needing to do some sorting out if they are to recreate the form and discipline they showed early on in the season.

Final Score: Rishworthians 0 - 27 Malton & Norton
