It was an early start for Rishies with clocks going forward and a long trip to Beverley in a Yorkshire Cup semi final tie. Beverley tend to play teams from East and North Yorkshire so we knew little about their form other than they were unbeaten at home and only lost 3 away this season. The form book did not deter Rishies as they powered into the final for the first time in the teams history with a comprehensive display of high tempo running rugby to finish 47 - 7 winners at Beverley.
From the off Beverley put Rishies under pressure with some powerful runs and strong rucking. The Rishies defence held out before Lewis Knopwood pounced on a loose pass to race away for an interception try which was converted by Cullen who had his kicking boots on all day.
Beverley's defence cracked again after a series of forward drives by Rishies had sucked in their players, the ball was spun down the back line with quick hands to winger Oli Cash to crash over in the corner. Cullen added an excellent touch line conversion to take a 14-0 lead. Cullen was on hand again and driving the forwards on in a series of pick and drives when a gap appeared he picked the ball from the back of the ruck and squeezed over for an unconverted try.
Another forward drive setup a platform in the Beverley half and with the host forwards sucked in the ball went down the back line for full back Miller to join the line on the burst and score a try converted by Cullen.
Just before half time Beverley tried to get some points on the board and managed to break out of their half. From a forward drive they launched their backs but Henry Hilton was up on them quickly to intercept a pass and sprint away to score. Cullen added a simple conversion and Rishies took a 33-0 lead in at the break.
A stunned Beverley came out and showed why they were unbeaten at home this season with a forwards try that put the visitors in the back foot. Rishies hit back with a try by O'Brian but the finest try of the match came when Knopwood broke from his own 22 passed to O'Brian and Will Adams who put Gabe Moore away for the try converted by Cullen. Every Rishies player was outstanding with Henry Hilton and Lewis Knopwood being the standouts in the forwards and backs respectively.
