Under 14's Match Report
A frozen pitch at Copley meant a last minute move of venue up to Brods ground and a later kick off time, unfortunately this did not result in the team arriving in a more switched on fashion. An early team talk was held by Mick and Karl to try and put the team in a more focussed frame of mind.
Playing uphill in the first half, Rishies tried to keep up with the always powerful Brods pack, early exchanges were equal with Sam Burford( who was playing with a very heavy cold) Max Dawes and George Heron tackling their opposite numbers well. However the Brods were recycling the Ball far better than the Redbacks and they eventually released a winger outwide to score an unconverted try.
Two more similar scores were conceded in the first half, strong forward play followed by release to the backs to score wide. It was hoped that with Rishies playing downhill in the 2nd Half they could level or beat the score attained by Brods.
The 2nd half started brighter for Rishies with the backs having several runs but brods quickly identified that a kicking game was putting our defence under considerable pressure. Several high balls were pumped into our 22 and we failed to deal with them effectively , and the Brods forwards were way to mobile for us to compete, each time ball was lost and the Brods crossed 5 unanswered times with 3 under the posts allowing easy conversion.
Sam Burford-Eyre and Harry Robinson continued to fight manfully up front but several missed tackles did not help and should certainly be a focus for next weeks training before hopefully a home match with BaildonMan of match Harry Robinson
