Match Report Sunday 8th January - Yorkshire Trophy Qtr Final

Rishworthians u13s made the journey over to Skipton on a frosty morning with a full squad of 20 players to get this delayed Yorkshire Trophy tie played.

Early pressure from the Rishworthians immediately put the home side on the back foot. Tough defence coupled with fast, expansive rugby led to an early try for flying winger Rhys Hunt following some fantastic hands from new halves pairing Josh Beck and Kai Greenwood, and centre Jack Billington combining well to free Hunt who showed fantastic balance and strength to open the scoring down the right wing.

After a dubious disallowed try debutant Ethan Bush was next to skip over for the second of the game. With Skipton unable to make any progress with the ball, a midfield fumble led to a further score with Sam Ogden scooping up the loose ball and extending the lead.

A great combination between new recruit Declan Knapping and Callum Sutcliffe led to a fourth try and shortly before half time the icing on the cake arrived in the form of a trademark Jake Parkinson try giving the travelling side a 25 point lead at the break.

Half Time Skipton 0 - 25 Rishworthians

The second half started exactly the same as the first with some slick passing from the half backs putting Hunt into space again to race away for a fantastic personal double. The speed of the Rishies offence was continuously catching out the home defence and further quick hands put Parkinson in for his second try of the game.

To their credit Skipton never stopped trying and managed to grab a consolation try before Beck restored order by crashing over from 10 yards to restore a seven try advantage.

With defences tiring Skipton were able to grab a second try before Beck grabbed his own personal double with a fantastic solo effort running 60 metres, weaving and skipping through the Skipton team and outpacing the fullback to score and mobbed by his team mates.

A quality late individual effort from Callum Sutcliffe showed flashing footwork to score from distance to round off a fantastic day for the visitors. Rishworthians now wait to see who they face in the semi finals.
