Rishworthians Minis v Old Brodleians

Rishworthians & Brodleians enjoy good rugby despite poor conditions

Match reports Sunday 27th April
After yesterdays glorious afternoon the players coaches and parents arrived for the last fixture of the season. What a change in the weather!!. It was a horrible wet morning at Copley with conditions rapidly worsening under foot. However all four sides played some great rugby and players from both clubs were a credit to themselves and their clubs. Rugby was the winner here.

Under 6’s The Micros
The micros had their last training session of the season. Its been the most successful micros squad to date with numbers reaching over 20 registered players. Several have played with the under 7's to gain valuable experience for next season when they become the under 7 squad and play competitive rugby. Reading the match reports they will be a force to be reckoned with collecting several man of match awards. Thanks to the coaches and parents for giving up your time supporting these youngsters. I hope you gained as much pleasure coaching and supporting them as they have playing the game.

Under 7's The Young Guns
With seventeen players turning out for Rishworthians (18 if you count Tom Stott who bravely turned up to have his photograph taken despite being very poorly) and 12 for Old Brods, Rishworthians were able to lend a few players to Old Brods to make up four teams. Thanks to George Wannan, Reece Barraclough and Henry Hilton for representing Brods.

Match 1 Rishworthians A  10 - 10  Old Brodleians A
In an end to end game both sides battled the conditions and produced some fine running rugby. Brods took an early lead before Kian Sutcliffe scored the first of his six tries. Two further tries from Brods gave them a 3-1 lead. Kian then score again to make it 3-2. Brods then scored again before Kian added his third to leave the score at 4-3 to the Brods. The teams then scored alternately up until the Brods led 8-7 with tries for Rishworthians coming from William Harker, Kian Sutcliffe 2, and George Sutcliffe. Brods then extended their lead to 9-7 before three tries on the bounce from William Harker, Kian Sutcliffe and George Sutcliffe gave Rishworthians a fragile 10-9 lead. Brods recovered well and scored with the last play of the game to leave a final score of 10-10.

No surprise as to man of the match – Kian Sutcliffe with his six try haul.

Match 2 Rishworthians A   8 -4   Old Brodleians B
By now the pitches resembled a mud bath but again both teams were able to play some great rugby. George Sutcliffe opened the scoring before Brods levelled it at 1-1. Further tries from Kian Sutcliffe and George Sutclife gave Rishworthians a deserved 3-1 lead. Brods did get one back before tries from William Harker and George Sutcliffe (3) gave Rishworthians a 7-2 lead. Brods then scored twice before William Harker completed the scoring to give Rishworthians an 8-4 victory.

Man of the match went to Henry Hilton for his tagging but a special mention needs to be given to George Sutcliffe for his excellent 5 try haul.

Squad: Kian Sutcliffe, Corey White, William Harker, Kieran Lewis, Reggie Herd, George Sutcliffe, Henry Hilton, Joe Barrett

Thanks again to Mark Oldroyd and Neal Mallinson for coaching the sides. Thanks also to the parents for such an excellent turnout on a horrible morning. Finally thanks to the Old Brods for helping to make the morning such a success and for playing the game how it should be played – for enjoyment.

On a rain soddened pitch Rishworthians & Old Brodleians battled out what begun as an even contest.  Rishworthians took a lead with Brodleians continually replying until the home side led 5-4.  Jack Mallinson scored the first 2 tries, Oliver Brian, Carrick Keighley-Payne and Nathan Donaldson then scored respectively.  Oliver Brian scored again either side of Nathan Donaldsons second try to make it 8-4.  Old Brodleians then replied only to see Alex Oldroyd and Jack Mallinson score again.  Old Brodleians then scored twice before Alex and Oliver finished off the scoring at 12-7.  Man of the Match Jack Mallinson.

Rishworthians B  7-8 Old Brodleians A.

The second game began well with Oliver Brian continuing where he had left off in the previous game by opening the scoring, although Old Brodleians quickly replied twice.  Finn Sutcliffe then levelled the scores before the visitors went back in front.   Alex Oldroyd scored again before Brodleians scored three on the trot to make it 6-3.  Rishworthians came back again through Alex Oldroyd but Brodleians scored twice again to go 8-4 up.  Despite a late rally which saw Oliver Brian score 3 more tries Rishworthians were unable to get back on level terms and lost 8-7.  Man of The Match Alex Oldroyd.
