Aireborough 1 - 4 Rishworthians
On a beautiful sunny day the Old Rishworthian under 8's headed off to Leeds to play at Headingly, in the half-time slot of Leeds Carnegie v. London Irish. The air of excitement amongst our young players was palpable. The thought of playing to a much larger crowd (several thousand plus the TV audience) didn't seem to phase them one jot, in fact the bigger the number of watchers quoted the higher the excitement level amongst the team. For the first half of the match our young players watched the professionals - giving all their support to the local team. Then as the half-time whistle blew the squad launched themselves onto the pitch ready to meet the opposition.
They were playing Aireborough, a team they have never played before. The match was just 10 minutes long but the pace frenetic, the action non-stop. Rishworthians were all over their opposition. There were some fantastic tackles, and stunning runs for the line and the match ended 4-1 to Rishworthians.
This was the first competitive game played after the long summer break and all members of the team played well. A good omen for the season ahead.
