Harrogate Festival 2005 The Under 14's had another excellent result at Harrogate and won through to the final where they were beaten by Sandal. Sandal are the National Champions so we did very well; What was pleasing is that we were unknown...even the announcer got our name wrong before the start of the final. They all knew us by the finish especially as we knocked the hosts Harrogate out!. Festival Report Old Rishworthian U 14`s added to their recent Morley festival success with a creditable runners up spot at the prestigious Harrogate Festival. In the first game they demolished Driffield 46 - 5 with tries from Chris Dyson 2, Sam Hoyland 3, Ben Porrit, Luke Flanagan and Eddie Cockroft. Cockroft added 3 conversions. The second fixture the Rishies lads followed on with an easy victory over Leeds based Roundhegians by 52 - 5. Tries came from Christus Ferneyhough 4, Chris Dyson, Sam Hoyland, Luke Flanagan and Ed Cockroft. Cockroft tagged on 6 conversions. The final group game saw the Rishworthian lads having to beat hosts Harrogate to meet Sandal in the final. They completed this with ease running out winners 38 - 0. Tries were scored by Chris Dyson 2, Christus Ferneyhough, Sam Hoyland, and a spectacular debut try for Gilbert Gregory and Ed Cockroft who also followed up with 4 conversions. The final was played on the wide Claro Road 1st team pitch in front of a large crowd, prior to the Harrogate v Manchester National 2 league game. The Rishworthian played exciting open rugby but were unable to break down the National and Yorkshire Champions Sandal and went down 5 - 24 with the only Rishworth try coming courtesy of a penalty try. It was nevertheless a spectacular achievement for a side in its first season and augments well for the team in 2005/2006. Squad: Robinson, Holt ,Gregory, Brocklehurst, Ferneyhough, Dyson, Cockroft, Flanagan, |
