2010 - 2011 Season

This season the 2ndXV will be playing competitive rugby in the Yorkshire 4 merit league. Paul Savage has stood down as captain and Ian Teasdale will be captain this season. Most of the fixtures are now arranged, there are just a few blank weeks to be finalised.

Last season the squad started well but then strugled in the second half of the season and finished bottom in the merit league. During the season Ian will be looking forward to the under 17's coming on stream to sample senior rugby as they reach their 17th birthday and help boost the strength of the squad.

We always require new players serious or social to join the club, anyone interested in playing 2ndXV rugby or would like to push for a 1stXV place just come down on a training night or a Saturday afternoon.

Match Preview and Training

Players please note the 2nd team is now training every week starting at 7.15 to 8.30 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with the 1st XV squad sessions run by Jamie/Cluffie. Any new players are welcome to attend.

Baildon 2nd XV 12 - 19 Rishworthians 2ndXV

A 19 man squad went to Baildon full of confidence after the good playing performance from the week before. The squad is a mix of age and youth with many people now having played 2 seasons together. This showed as the support play and positive encouragement was in the side from the beginning. An early try by Tom Brian up the wing bought a quick lead for Rishworthians. This was then converted by Luke Flannagan who's kicking was excellent through out the game. Rishworthians dominated the 1st half with another try from James Kidd who ran through the line for a try which was again converted by Luke. However the forwards performed throughout the game and the tries were only possible as the Rishworthian pack rucked and mauled with vigour and style. This set the platform for the backs to then use the pace around the outside of the Baildon defence.

The second half started badly with Baildon scoring a try early on from constant pressure and determination. This woke the Rish side and they came back to engage and start running with the ball into the Baildon half. The 3rd try was an epic run, some people say that Savage started from the edge of the field and ran with 15 men on each leg to score the try. But in reality Savage took the ball from the Baildon backs and to everyone's surprise (and his) ran straight (I know you don't believe this but its true...) to score the try across the Baildon try line. If only he had scored under the posts it would have made Lukes kick on target but sadly he was denied. The game finished with Lee Atkinson running up the wing with try line fever in his eyes and taking on 5 players aka Antony Shoesmith style. Overall an excellent performance. Ian Teasdale was on field captain>/p>

Man of the match Robbie Kitchen. He constantly made solid runs and tackled during the game to put pressure on the Baildon forwards and backs alike. All players were in agreement with this choice...
